This book is an absolute delight. Girl leaves a red notebook in the hopes of someone picking it up. Boy stumbles on the notebook and the rest history. I mean, who wouldn't want something like that? I know I do. And it's set on The Strand, by far the largest bookstore in New York City! This made me want to get a US visa and head straight to New York to go on an adventure as it was told in the book. Visit The Strand, Macy's, FAO Schwarz, and Madame Tussauds. I want to make my own Muppet and eat Lebkuchen cookies (even if I don't know what they taste like!)
Though Dash isn't swoon worthy, his snark is something that I think boys must possess. It makes them more endearing and in my opinion, more interesting. He even dared to look for a gay book at the bookstore just so he can answer the first dare written on Lily's notebook. Their witty banter on the book was captivting enough to keep on my edge of my seat while I read through the end when they finally meet.
This book provided the right amount of fluff. The fluff that makes your heart go pitter pat and makes you blush even if you don't want to. I wish I had the courage to that kind of thing, leave a notebook in a bookstore with a message or something and wait for someone to pick it up. So far, I've only left my number on a tissue paper at Starbucks. LOL!
David Levithan (born 1972) is an American children's book editor and award-winning author. He published his first YA book, Boy Meets Boy, in 2003. Levithan is also the founding editor of PUSH, a Young Adult imprint of Scholastic Press.
Rachel grew up in the D.C. area and graduated from Barnard College with a B.A. in Political Science. She has written many YA novels, including three that she cowrote with her friend and colleague David Levithan. She lives and writes (when she's not reading other people's books, organizing her music library or looking for the best cappuccino) in New York City.
Yes to fluff! I totally enjoyed this one- I've been tempted to do the little red notebook thing ever since reading the book haha! Props to you for leaving your number on a Starbucks tissue ;)
