Wicked Review: Where She Went by Gayle Forman

Published: April 5, 2011

It's been three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life.

And three years he's spent wondering why.

When their paths cross again in New York City, Adam and Mia are brought back together for one life-changing night.

Adam finally has the opportunity to ask Mia the questions that have been haunting him. But will a few hours in this magical city be enough to lay their past to rest, for good - or can you really have a second chance at first love?

To say that this book didn't make me cry is an understatement. I was left wondering what happened to Mia after she woke up from a comatose when Adam pleaded for her to stay with him. You'd think they'd live a happily ever after that, but no.

Three years later, Adam is now a rising star and Mia is the same. They moved on with their lives. It hurts to see them apart you know. I've rooted for these two and nothing breaks my heart more than see them not together.

Gayle Forman definitely didn't disappoint with this one. I am more disappointed with myself that it took me so long to pick this up and read it. She is truly a spectacular writer. Both novels are character driven, sparse on action and heavy on emotional content. If in If I Stay, each character has a common ground, Where She Went is a departure from that. Adam is heartbroken. He lost the girl he loves and lost his passion for music, the only thing that fuels him to go on in life. He got what he wanted. He's famous. He's going on tour with his band from home. He's living his dream but suddenly, it doesn't feel like it for him.

When Adam saw Mia after seeing her perform, I was like, "OH MY GOD THIS IS IT!" Well, obviously, it's not it. It was the right amount of awkward. Three years is a long time and most of the time, some people don't get to move on easily. Adam's flashbacks were longer, seeing as it spans the months that followed after Mia's recovery. The scene on the Brooklyn Ferry Bridge was the most heartbreaking confession in all of fictional universe.

No words in the Oxford dictionary can express how much I love this book. I am literally bursting with the feels right now.
